| OVCC: About us |
|
Our group was started in November of 1991. We are a non-profit user group operating out of Pembroke. We serve both the Renfrew and Pontiac Counties. We have club members from Eganville, Douglas, Golden Lake, Pembroke and Petawawa. We are a registered member of APCUG (Assocation of Personal Computer User Groups). The group was formed because of a need for computer users and interested individuals to have a forum in which to discuss computer interests and problems, new technologies and provide an evening of discussion. We provide support to anyone interested in advancing their knowledge in the computer field and an oppourtunity for individuals or groups to exchange their ideas and expertise.
We have co-ordinated Demonstrations by companies such as Corel Corporation of Ottawa, ATI Tecnologies, G&A Imaging and Microsoft Corporation as well as a number of Valley computer businesses. We have arranged tours of facilities such as the KAO plant in Arnprior, the Computer Training Center in Pembroke, KI International, The Pembroke Observer, the Petawawa National Forestry Institute (while in operation) and the Chalk River Nuclear Laboratories. We have had demonstrations of cell phones and picture phones as well as wireless technology and are always on the lookout for more presenters from both the software and hardware industries to provide demonstrations for our membership. We have had someone come to show us digital cameras, and we had a visit from the Sideroad in Almonte. We are also looking at possible tours of high-tech industries within the Ottawa Area. If you have any ideas about places you would like to visit, please contact one of the executive members. We maintain a mailing list as well as an email distribution list to let our membership know of our Club's activities. We also plan to publish a Newsletter on the Web shortly. If you are interested in finding out more about our club and others in the area, come out to a meeting. There is no obligation to join, but we are always looking for new members. |
